Sylvan Avenue’s Great Kindness Challenge

Students at Sylvan Avenue Elementary took part in the nationwide Great Kindness Challenge, a weeklong initiative that promotes kindness and compassion in schools and communities around the world.

Throughout the week, students completed acts of kindness using the challenge’s checklist, marking off each good deed as they spread positivity throughout the building. To celebrate, the school hosted a kindness-themed spirit week with daily themes: “I Dream of Kindness” (pajamas) on Monday; “Shine Bright With Kindness” (neon colors and sunglasses) on Tuesday; “Show Us Your Kind” (clothing with positive messages) on Wednesday; “Make Kindness a Pattern” (wearing stripes, polka dots or plaid) on Thursday; and “Dress With Spirit, Lead With Kindness” for Sylvan Avenue’s spirit day on Friday.

Students also demonstrated inclusion by sitting with someone new at lunch and making an effort to connect with different classmates. The weeklong celebration reinforced the importance of empathy, friendship and building a supportive school community.
