Blue Point fifth graders in Mrs. Lee’s class recently took a field trip to explore the newly restored living shoreline at Shore Front Park in Patchogue. As part of their visit, students observed the shoreline’s vegetation and documented their findings through detailed drawings and written reflections. They discussed how the shoreline has changed and learned why these improvements play a vital role in reducing erosion and protecting the local environment.
On the dock, students measured spat-on-shell oysters with calipers, examined the biodiversity found in oyster cages, and discovered how oysters contribute to a healthier ecosystem. The experience gave students an up-close look at local conservation efforts and the importance of protecting our coastal habitats.
