Blue Point Elementary second graders kicked off their first Community Club meeting of the year by getting to work on a new sensory garden for their school.

Students helped begin transforming the outdoor space by placing hand-painted stones, sensory mats and stepping stones throughout the garden. They also added mirrors to the surrounding fence, wind chimes, flags featuring positive messages and log seating.

The sensory garden project was made possible through a generous donation from the Student Educational Enrichment and Development (SEED) Foundation, a nonprofit organization. The new space will complement Blue Point Elementary’s Zen Den, an indoor calming space where students can take time to recharge.

The garden will continue to grow throughout the school year. Plans include adding a bench and water feature, and students will return to the garden in the spring to plant flowers.
