Academy Street Elementary students discovered what it takes to turn an idea into a published book during a special visit from author Jerry Pallotta.

Pallotta took students behind the scenes of his writing and publishing process, explaining the many choices involved in creating a book. He discussed everything from word choice and research to artwork and cover design, giving students a closer look at how each piece comes together before a book reaches readers.

Drawing from some of his most popular titles, Pallotta also shared how experiences and stories from his own life have sparked ideas for his books. He spoke about the research that goes into his work and how an initial idea develops throughout the writing process.

Students had plenty of questions of their own and had the opportunity to ask Pallotta about his books, his career and what it is like to be a published author.
