At the August 12 Board of Education meeting, Robert E. Haas was officially sworn in as the new Superintendent of Schools for the Bayport-Blue Point School District. A proud member of the BBP community, Mr. Haas is a 1997 graduate of the district and has spent his entire career serving the community he once called home as a student.

Mr. Haas began his career in Bayport-Blue Point as a social studies teacher and coach before taking on a variety of leadership roles, including assistant principal, middle school principal, high school principal and, most recently, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and Post-Master’s Professional Certificate in School Administration from Stony Brook University.

Mr. Haas brings a unique perspective and deep understanding of the district’s traditions, values and goals to his new role as superintendent.

Alongside Mr. Haas, we’re excited to welcome some new faces – and some familiar ones stepping into new roles – to the Bayport-Blue Point leadership team! Each brings a wealth of experience, a strong commitment to our students and a passion for supporting our schools and community. 

 

Meredith Kelly

Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

Meredith Kelly

Meredith Kelly joined Bayport-Blue Point in 2024 as the Principal of Sylvan Avenue Elementary School. During her time in the district, she has established herself as a thoughtful, collaborative and highly respected leader known for her strong communication, relationship-building skills and student-centered approach.

Prior to joining Bayport-Blue Point, Ms. Kelly served as an assistant principal and teacher in the Merrick School District. Her strong instructional background, combined with her leadership experience and knowledge of the district, makes her well-prepared to lead curriculum and instruction across Bayport-Blue Point.

In her new role, Ms. Kelly will undoubtedly bring the same energy, care and commitment to teaching and learning that she demonstrated at Sylvan Avenue to support students and educators throughout the district. 

 

Katy Tirado

Administrator for Pupil Personnel Services

Katy Tirado

Katy Tirado has been a part of the Bayport-Blue Point community since 2009, when she began her career in the district as a kindergarten co-teacher at Blue Point Elementary School. Since then, she has continued to grow as an educator and leader, serving as the district’s K-12 Special Education Department Chair and, most recently, as an elementary assistant principal.

Throughout her career, Ms. Tirado has been a dedicated advocate for students and has built strong relationships with students, families and staff. She is known for her collaborative, compassionate and organized approach to leadership, as well as her strong communication skills.

As Administrator for Pupil Personnel Services, Ms. Tirado brings extensive experience in special education and a deep understanding of Bayport-Blue Point and the community it serves.

 

Michelle Ring

Principal, Sylvan Avenue Elementary School

Michelle Ring

Michelle Ring brings 18 years of experience as an elementary teacher to Bayport-Blue Point, along with experience as an elementary assistant principal and, most recently, two years as a principal in the Greenwood Lake School District.

Ms. Ring has a strong background in curriculum and instruction, MTSS and using data to support student learning. She is also a collaborative leader who believes in creating school communities where every child feels known, supported and valued.

With a focus on partnership among teachers, staff, families and the community, Ms. Ring looks forward to building upon the strong foundation already established at Sylvan Avenue and becoming part of the BBP community.

Jacqueline Weinzierl

Assistant Principal, Bayport-Blue Point High School

Jacqueline Weinzierl joins Bayport-Blue Point from New York City, where she served as a Special Education Coordinator and Elementary Assistant Principal. She brings experience in special education, school leadership, technology, master scheduling, MTSS and using student data to improve instruction.

Ms. Weinzierl also brings a tremendous energy, enthusiasm and a genuine excitement about working with students and educators. She has a collaborative leadership style and a willingness to roll up her sleeves and work alongside faculty and staff. 

We look forward to all that Ms. Weinzierl will contribute to the BBP high school community.
