Bayport-Blue Point’s Board of Education organized and prepared for the onset of the 2026-2027 school year during their July 7 reorganization meeting.

During the meeting, Michael Miller and Jessica Pignataro were sworn in following their re-election as trustees. The board also nominated and reelected Mr. Miller as board president and Brian Johnson as vice president. All were sworn in along with retiring Superintendent of Schools Dr. Timothy P. Hearney, who took his last oath of office as superintendent.

During his superintendent’s report Dr. Hearney thanked the community for the past 18 years. “It has been a privilege to serve. This community is like no other.”

Also, during the meeting, the board officially appointed Robert E. Hass as the district’s new superintendent. Mr. Haas, who will officially take the helm on Aug. 1, is a graduate of the Bayport-Blue Point School District, Class of 1997 and a graduate of Stony Brook University. His professional journey began in Bayport-Blue Point as a social studies teacher. He has also served the district in numerous leadership roles, including Assistant Principal, Middle School Principal, High School Principal and most recently Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

Mr. Haas thanked the board for their support. “I am truly honored and humbled. Thank you for this opportunity,” he said.
