James Wilson Young Middle School students took audiences to the kingdom of Far Far Away during their production of “Shrek Jr. the Musical,” presented May 29 and 30.
Featuring the school’s largest cast in years, the production included 63 student performers and 15 stage crew members, all of whom had been preparing for the show since March 11. The musical was directed by Teresa Lovito, with Kathleen Conklin serving as musical director and Bailey Whitney as choreographer.
Based on the hit animated film, “Shrek Jr. the Musical” follows the lovable ogre Shrek as he sets out on an unexpected adventure filled with fairy tale creatures, unlikely friendships and important lessons about acceptance and being true to yourself. Packed with humor, heart and energetic musical numbers, the show brings a fresh twist to the classic fairy tale story.
"Being able to tell their version of this well-known story to a community that’s so supportive is exciting,” Lovito said. “We’ve sold out all three shows.”
“We created a beautiful family in our ‘Far Far Away,’ and I hope that they continue to explore their imaginations and the magical world of theater,” Conklin said.
