Sylvan Avenue Elementary welcomed local first responders for a special event recognizing their commitment and service to the community.
Students greeted members of the Suffolk County Police Department, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, New York City Police Department and Bayport Fire Department with handmade cards to thank them for all they do.
Suffolk County Police Officer Gayer then performed a K-9 demonstration with canine hero, Ryder, giving students an inside look at the training and responsibilities of police dogs and their handlers.
The celebration wrapped up with a spirited emergency vehicle parade around the school, featuring flashing lights and sirens that excited students and staff alike.
