At their May 5 meeting, the Bayport-Blue Point Board of Education recognized the outstanding accomplishments of the Division B and Division C Science Olympiad teams, as well as the RoboPhantoms middle school robotics team, for their exceptional competitive seasons.
The RoboPhantoms 9556 team tackled this year’s First Lego League Challenge theme, “Unearth,” by designing and building the Phantom Finder, an innovative device created to help locate gravestones that have sunk underground. Their solution earned high marks throughout the competition season. At the Long Island Qualifier, the team placed second for the Championship Award and was named first finalist for the Robot Performance Award. They went on to win the Innovation Award at the Long Island Championships, earning an invitation to the American Robotics Competition in June.
The Division B Science Olympiad team had a strong season, highlighted by a second-place finish at the Suffolk County Championship, setting a new program record, and 10 top three event finishes, including three champions. The team qualified for its fourth consecutive state competition, where it placed 18th and earned three state medals. The Division C team placed fourth out of 63 teams at the Suffolk County Regionals and advanced to states, where they achieved their highest finish in nearly 20 years. All seven seniors earned regional medals, and the team medaled in 11 of 23 events overall.
Congratulations to our students on a successful season!
