Students in government, politics, economics and law classes at Bayport-Blue Point High School had the opportunity to hear from a special agent from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s New York City Field Office on March 31.
During the visit, the agent outlined key FBI priorities, including counterterrorism, counterintelligence and cybersecurity. Students learned about the wide scope of FBI investigations, which range from white collar crime and civil rights violations to organized crime, violent gangs, healthcare fraud and financial crimes.
The presentation also highlighted essential FBI services, such as Criminal Justice Information Services and the FBI Laboratory – one of the largest and most comprehensive crime labs in the world. Additionally, the agent discussed the FBI’s Operational Technology Division and its role in developing innovative tech to support intelligence, national security and law enforcement efforts.
Students were introduced to a variety of career opportunities within the FBI, including roles as special agents, intelligence analysts, IT specialists, forensic biologists, forensic accountants, linguists and professionals in human resources, legal, medical and counseling fields.
The agent emphasized the importance of making positive life choices, such as avoiding drug use and maintaining a responsible social media presence, for anyone interested in joining the FBI. He also shared information about programs available to students and recent graduates, including the FBI Teen Academy and the FBI Honors Internship Program.
