Bayport-Blue Point High School’s National Honor Society spread Valentine’s Day cheer by sponsoring book boxes for children living in shelters across Long Island. Students collected donations from the high school community and assembled 70 Valentine’s Day book boxes filled with a new children’s book, a healthy snack, water or a juice box and fun trinkets such as toys and stickers.

Advised by Mrs. Peterson, the National Honor Society partnered with Waverly Elementary School in the Sachem School District for the second consecutive year to make the initiative possible. The boxes will be going to various organizations and shelters, including Brighter Tomorrows, Lighthouse Mission, Help Suffolk in Bellport, Lakehouse, Community Housing Innovations and Breath of Life Center. The collaborative effort reflects the students’ commitment to service, literacy and supporting children in need throughout Long Island.
