Fourth graders at Sylvan Avenue were greeted with a festive surprise when they arrived at school on Dec. 17. Upon entering their classrooms, they found their desks wrapped in holiday-themed paper!
The surprise was organized by members of the school’s Peer Leaders club, a group of students focused on developing leadership skills, community involvement, and kindness. During their meeting on Dec. 16, the peer leaders wrapped each fourth grader’s desk to help spread holiday cheer.
Throughout the school year, the Peer Leaders club has taken part in several service-oriented activities. In November, members wrote notes of appreciation to their teachers. In January, the group plans to host a “Soup-er Bowl” food drive to collect nonperishable items for a local food pantry. Most recently, the club raised $115 for a local animal shelter through the sale of snowman-making kits created by the students.
Great job, peer leaders!
