On Oct. 28, the Bayport-Blue Point community came together to celebrate its Board of Education in honor of School Board Recognition Week and to recognize several PTA achievements.
The evening began with the recognition of Blue Point Elementary School for being named a 2024-2026 National PTA School of Excellence. This honor is only awarded to 330 schools nationwide and just 24 in New York State. Principal Tara Falasco, Blue Point Elementary’s PTA Executive Board and the student winners of the school’s essay and poster contests were in attendance to unveil a new banner commemorating the achievement. Essay contest award winners included Reese D. and Danielle E., while poster contest honors went to Doireann G. and Nicolas Q. The Board congratulated the PTA and BPE community for their continued dedication to excellence and family engagement.
The celebration continued as Sylvan Avenue Principal Meredith Kelly presented the New York State Jane Skrzypek Leadership Award to Molly Bertran, recognizing her as an outstanding leader within the PTA.
In honor of School Board Recognition Week, members of the Bayport-Blue Point High School jazz band and vocal jazz ensemble delivered a captivating performance to honor the Board of Education. Board members also received thoughtful, hand-crafted cards from students at Sylvan Avenue, Academy Street, and Blue Point Elementary schools, expressing appreciation for their dedication and service to the district.
