BBP Board of Education honors top scholars and volunteers at Oct. 7 meeting

At the Oct. 7 Bayport-Blue Point Board of Education meeting, several students were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements and dedication to community service.

Five students, Matthew B., Alex B., Lily D., Jenny L. and Naomi W., were honored for completing 40 or more hours of community service during the 2024-25 school year, demonstrating a strong commitment to giving back to the BBP community.

The board also celebrated a large group of high-achieving students who earned Advanced Placement honors. Among the recognitions were 30 AP Scholars, 13 AP Capstone awardees, 32 AP Scholars with Distinction, 12 AP Scholars with Honor, 8 recipients of the AP Seminar and Research Certificate, 4 Cum Laude, 12 Magna Cum Laude and 32 Summa Cum Laude honorees.

Additionally, the district excitedly announced Jefferson S. as the Valedictorian and Shlok P. as the Salutatorian for the Class of 2026.

Jefferson is a well-rounded student and standout leader, serving as a key member of the varsity tennis team, chamber orchestra and jazz band. He is also an AP Scholar with Distinction and an active member of both the National Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Shlok has distinguished himself not only academically but also through his commitment to community service. He has volunteered extensively with Lighthouse Mission and Gayatri Pariwar of Long Island, while also contributing to the school’s Science Olympiad team.

The evening concluded with a tribute to longtime Sylvan Avenue teacher Elizabeth Birdsall who is retiring after a distinguished career.
