At its Sept. 16 meeting, the Bayport-Blue Point Board of Education recognized outstanding individuals who exemplify dedication, compassion and excellence within the school community.
The Board honored Ralph Maag as the district’s 2024-25 Employee of the Year. Ralph’s extraordinary ability to connect with both staff and students has made him a treasured member of the BBP family. An excerpt from his nomination read, “Ralph has a special ability to connect with both staff and students, and his warm, friendly demeanor, always accompanied by a smile, makes him a beloved presence throughout the school.”
Also recognized was James Wilson Young Middle School math teacher Marybeth Lyons as Teacher of the Year. Marybeth’s commitment to education extends beyond the classroom. She plays an active role in the Christopher A. Coluccio Foundation, educating the community about mental health, depression and suicide prevention. As the advisor to the school’s newspaper club, she fosters creativity and encourages student expression. Her leadership continues through her work with the BBP Teachers Association, where she serves as a building representative and committee chair, often serving as a guiding resource for her colleagues.
In addition to staff recognitions, the Board celebrated the creative talents of several student-artists whose work was featured in the 2025-26 district calendar. Congratulations to Aria B., Phoebe B., Aminah C., Sean C., Sophia H., Kylie J., Haley J., Olivia L., Liliana L., Elizabeth S., Audrey S. and Maya Z.
