On May 16, Sylvan Avenue Elementary hosted a thoughtful celebration to honor local first responders for their service and dedication to the community.

Students began the day by welcoming officers from the Suffolk County Police Department, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department and New York City Police Department with handmade thank you cards.

As part of the event, students were treated to a K-9 demonstration by Suffolk County Police Officer Gayer, who explained the important work done by police dogs. The demonstration offered students a closer look at the skills and training involved in K-9 units.

The morning concluded with an exciting police car parade around the school, complete with flashing lights and sirens.
