On March 26, the Bayport-Blue Point School District appointed Meredith Kelly and Jamal Walcott as the next principals of Sylvan Avenue Elementary and Bayport-Blue Point High School, respectively, during a meeting of the board of education.
Ms. Kelly comes to Bayport-Blue Point from the Merrick Union Free School District where she worked as both a teacher and assistant principal over the past nine years.
During her three years as assistant principal, she helped to foster a strong sense of community, support and respect among her colleagues, staff and families. She possesses a clear vision that emphasizes a student-centered education in a caring and nurturing environment. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Scranton, received a Master of Arts in special education from St. Joseph’s University and holds professional certifications in educational leadership and TESOL from Stony Brook University and Dowling College, respectively.
Mr. Walcott comes to Bayport-Blue Point from the Longwood Central School District, where he served as a teacher, and, most recently, as the high school assistant principal since 2018.
During his work in the district, he demonstrated an outstanding track record for assuring student success through various school initiatives. He is a proven effective educator with a strong ability to lead and establish goals while supporting students and staff. He completed his undergraduate degree at St. Joseph’s University and received a Master of Science in both continuing education and administrative leadership from Stony Brook University. He is also a past Coca-Cola National Teacher of the Year.
Both Ms. Kelly and Mr. Walcott will assume their new roles effective July 1, 2024.
