Sylvan Avenue Elementary’s kindergarteners visited the Bayport Fire Department to learn all about fire safety, including the importance of having a family meeting place in case of an emergency. Firefighters showed them the special equipment and tools they use every day, both on their uniforms and on the fire trucks. The students even practiced the important safety skill of “Stop, Drop, and Roll.” One of the highlights was getting to feel the powerful pressure of spraying the fire hose and taking a tour of the fire truck, complete with a fun jump off the back! The visit ended with the students chanting, “Higher, higher” as teachers and parent volunteers were lifted 100 feet into the air on the bucket truck.
