School Closings & Delays

Weather Letter - 2018-19 (PDF)

In the event that it becomes necessary to close the schools or delay the opening of school because of inclement weather or an emergency, the following stations will broadcast the information:

News 12 Long Island – Channel 12
WALK – 1370 AM/97.5 FM
WHLI/WJOY/Island – 1100 AM/98.3 FM/94.3 FM
WBLI– 106.1 FM

Announcements are broadcast between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. School closings or delayed openings are announced. If a closing is not announced, school is in session. You are asked not to call the school during such emergencies as the school lines are busy with outgoing notification calls.

Parents should establish procedures with their children that can be implemented whenever a daytime emergency school closing (caused by weather conditions, etc.) or transportation problem (buses not running) occurs at school. Parents should inform the school about the procedures established with the children.
