The Advanced Placement World and European History students recently attended a showing of the Broadway “Six, the Musical.” With the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the new monarchy of Charles III, the interest in the English monarchy prevails, and students were able to watch a former monarchy under Henry VIII unveil on the stage.
The play, which was more of a concert, held the interest of the students with the historical presentation of events of each of Henry’s wives told through choreography, modern dance moves, and a girl-band atmosphere. The jingle “divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived” stuck, and the history was woven into the shining costumes in a way that left the students impressed, energized and informed.
The trip into the city on the Long Island Railroad was sponsored by the Bayport-Blue Point SEED program. The students also enjoyed the Moynihan food court and the walk up Eighth Avenue. The joy of the experience was evidence in the students’ smiles and applause.
