Each year, Bayport-Blue Point student-athletes make Newsday’s lists of top athletes on Long Island. This season is no exception with students making the lists of top athletes in football, cross-country and field hockey.

In football, seniors Brady C. (QB/DB) and Derek V. (TE/DE) made the list of Top 100 High School Football Players. Last season, Brady threw for 1,964 yards and 19 touchdowns and ran for 575 yards and 12 more scores, leading the Phantoms to the Suffolk IV title game. Derek is one of the Phantoms’ top receiving options this season with 403 yards and three scores last season.

Varsity girls cross-country runner Eva M. was also included in Newsday’s list of top runners for the 2022 season. Eva placed eighth at the Suffolk division championship in 20:28:50 at Sunken Meadow.

Newsday’s Top Field Hockey Players of 2022 included five Bayport-Blue Point student athletes. According to the Newsday article, Junior Julia F.(F/M) will play a crucial role in the Phantoms’ offense scoring ability. Senior Maggie K. (D) is a strong defender who will be a key component to the team’s success, while senior Caroline L. (GK) recorded nine shutouts last season. As one of the state’s top defensive players, senior Kate M. (D) is a force to be reckoned with for the team’s opponents. Junior Kendall W. (F) also played an important role on offense last season with 17 points (11 goals and six assists).

The district congratulates the student-athletes on these amazing accomplishments and extends wishes for success in the 2022 athletic season.
