Superintendent's Message

August 2022

Dear Bayport-Blue Point Families,

I hope you are having a wonderful summer and are finding time to relax and unwind with family and friends. On behalf of my colleagues and our Board of Education, I am happy to welcome you to the 2022/23 school year in the Bayport-Blue Point School District.

This year we have many exciting new initiatives that will enhance the culture of BBP. We are delighted to welcome our first class of Pre-K students, now have a full time social worker in each building, added Club Wellness at each school, expanded transportation/bussing, worked wellness into the curriculum, and added numerous clubs at the secondary level.  These additions will add to the overall well-being of our students and enhance their time at school.

We will continue to focus on every student and staff member having a “Go-To Person” at BBP.   A “Go-To” is someone you can reach out to with good news or when you need extra support.  It is a person you trust and rely on and one who reaches out when he/she feels you may need an extra hand. Our teachers, and all staff, are ready to welcome your child(ren) and ensure they feel safe and cared for while in school.  To this end, and recognizing the importance of a strong home-to-school connection, attached is a list of phone numbers for key people/departments, should you have a question regarding your child’s time at BBP.  I encourage all families to keep an open line of communication with their child’s school and our district as a whole. Please be sure that your current phone numbers and email accounts are on file and up to date in our system.

In 2022/23, I again ask for your cooperation in adhering to the procedures when visiting our schools – these include entering through the main entrance only (all other doors will be locked), providing a copy of your driver’s license/photo ID upon arrival, and wearing your issued badge throughout the duration of your visit.  As always, we continue to examine and identify ways to enhance our school safety practices and procedures.

As we have done in the past, and as a way to strengthen our BBP school community relationship, I welcome you to share your first day of school traditions and photos with us on twitter at @BBPschools [].  Whether it is your child’s first day of pre-k or first day of their senior year, we look forward to celebrating opening day together. I encourage you to use the hashtag #BBPOpeningDay2023, #BBP, or an original hashtag you create with your family.  The first day of school is a special time – a time for new beginnings and fresh starts, and I look forward to welcoming the students back on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.

I extend my warmest and best wishes for a successful 2022-23 school year.
