From Coach Kaplan….Varsity Spring Boys Track update: Last week Jack Baron successfully defended his County Title winning the Pentathlon for the second straight year!
The following athletes are going to state quals Thursday and Friday: Ethan Christophersen, Nick Gelsomino, Cian Love, Chase Lessing, Jack Baron, Aidan Garafola, Anthony Russo, Jacob Brower and Trevor Orgonas.

Coach Cruz highlights: Max Gallagher won 4 straight matches to dominate the NYS tournament, held in Albany this past weekend. On his way to his title at 126 pounds Max totaled 67 points, 21 takedowns, 21 near fall points, 1 reversal and 2 escapes. This is a remarkable achievement for the Junior. Max completed this dream season with a record of 36-0. He currently has 144 wins and is 6 wins shy of the Bayport-Blue Point school record.

Girls Winter Track:
League V Champions (3 years in a row)
County Champions (3rd time in school history)
Individual League Champions: Leeann Redlo, Emily Clayton, Felicia Giglio, Andi Swedborg
Leeann Redlo qualified for the State Championship meet in the 55 meter hurdles and long jump. Leeann was all county in every event she entered winning the Long Jump, taking 3rd in the hurdles and 4th in the triple jump. She broke a school record in long jump that had stood for over 20 years. She now has the school record in the 55 m hurdles, long jump and triple jump. She's #2 in school history in the High Jump as well. She'll next compete in the Long Island Elite meet, then the NYS Championship meet and conclude her season at Nike Indoor Nationals in mid March.
Wrestling:
The Phantoms took third place in the County Tournament Friday night.
The team was led by Max Gallagher 126 and Kyle Barber 138 . Both winning titles at their respective weight classes.

Key Tips:
- Registration on Final Forms opens one month from the start date of the season.
- Upload your student-athlete’s physical and complete the parent forms.
- High School student-athletes must complete and sign their forms.
- Physicals are good for one year.
- Upon completion, the row will turn green.
- Finally clearance is provided by the nurse.

Fall Sports Highlights from the Varsity Coaches:
Coach Zafonte: The Varsity football team has its first playoff game at home on Friday, November 5 at 5pm. Please come up and support the team!
Coach Scharf: The Varsity Girls' Tennis team finished the Fall 2021 season with a perfect 14-0 record, earning the team the League III title and the number 1 seed in the Small School team playoffs. The girls held their seed and defeated Shoreham-Wading River 6-1 to win the Small School County Championship and a spot in the Long Island Championship.
Coach Kaplan: The Varsity Boys Cross Country team won their second straight league championship.
Coach Eiesland: The Varsity Say/Bay Girls Swim/Dive Team. Congratulations to the girls varsity swimming & diving team for winning the league 3 championship yesterday & finishing their season undefeated in the league! Abby Almskog, Sam Ellis, Nicolette Diemer, Haley Hendershot & Shannon Swezey had fantastic swims yesterday! Special Congratulations & good luck to Haley Hendershot & Shannon Swezey who will be continuing on to the county championships! Amazing job girls!

In the Zone
The District is pleased to announce that seniors Emily Cortese and Matthew Nilan were selected as recipients of the Suffolk County Zone Award. Sponsored by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, the award recognizes one male and one female Suffolk County high school senior from each school district who exemplifies outstanding scholastic ability, physical education performance and leadership qualities.
To qualify for the Suffolk Zone Award, recipients must earn a 90% average in high school physical education and health classes and an overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale by the completion of junior year. Recipients must contribute to the positive outcomes of their physical education and health classes and school, always working to support the instructional efforts of the class. Additionally, the recipient must demonstrate physical education and health class leadership and serve in a leadership capacity in an extracurricular organization. Finally, the recipient must achieve a high level of physical fitness and live an overall healthy lifestyle.
Emily plans on attending SUNY Geneseo next fall where she will continue playing field hockey. Matthew also plans on playing lacrosse at Towson University upon graduation.
The district congratulates Emily and Matthew on this outstanding accomplishment and much success in their athletic careers.
