On Tuesday, October 21 the Student Art League went on a field tri
p to the local merchants in Bayport and Blue Point. Mr. Salino and 47 students broke up into 5 groups and painted more than 30 storefronts with Fall and Halloween themes. The whole district was decorated from Tony’s Pizza in the west to the Bayport/Blue Point Library in the east and to the south with Legends deli and Country
Junque among others. All the merchants were
wonderful, many giving the student artists food and beverage and all giving
words of encouragement. All of the student artists enjoyed the day and
learned how much the local community supports our art program at Bayport/
Blue Point High School. Mr. Salino would like to thank all the storeowners
who participated and offer our
services again for next year.

The Tri-M Music Honor Society at Bayport Blue Point High School held their 2008-09 Induction Ceremony in the HS Auditorium on Wednesday October 22, 2008. 51 students joined the existing 57 students to form the 2008-09 club membership. The club advisor,
Jana Pratt (HS Choral Teacher) is assisted by the officers Joseph Rivera, Victor Mevo, Emily Caravella, Conor McLaughlin, Trevor Dougherty and Nakita Shah. This newly formed group hopes to better the community through their musical accomplishments. They plan to visit local nursing homes and assisted living facilities to entertain the residents and staff. They will faithfully be on hand at concerts, plays and other events at our High School to help as ushers, ticket collectors and chaperones. To reward themselves for their hard work they would love to take a cultural field trip to NYC!

Bayport-Blue Point High School students were honored by the National Merit Scholarship Program, which is an academic recognition and scholarship competition for high school students. Participants entered by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which serves as an initial screening for the approximately 1.5 million entrants each year.
Bayport-Blue Point High School student Adam Janzen represents the nation’s best, receiving Semifinalist status, which places him among the highest scoring entrants in New York State. Adam is one of the 16,000 students, or approximately one-third, of the 50,000 high scorers in the nation. This award gives him the opportunity to advance to the Finalist level and a position as a possible scholarship recipient.
In addition, two students, Declan Diemer and Dylan Kann, received Commended Student status. These students are part of the 34,000, out of the 50,000 high scorers, on the PSAT/NMSQT. These students now have the opportunity to be candidates for Special Scholarships that are sponsored by corporations and businesses.
