MISSION STATEMENT
The Bayport-Blue Point High School has embraced the mission of the Renaissance Education Foundation which is to help students promote and achieve academic excellence - in effect create a "renaissance" in education. This "renaissance" will be realized by using a framework of business principles such as motivation, recognition, rewards, incentives, quality involvement and management. In addition, we will become part of a national network that is using this framework to affect grades, attendance, at-risk students, dropouts, discipline problems, teacher morale, staff turnover, parental involvement, and community support.
HISTORY
Renaissance is a concept developed by the Renaissance Education Foundation. Nearly 2,000 schools across the country have developed their own programs to encourage academic excellence. The Rotary Club of Sayville has been honoring Bayport-Blue Point High School's Renaissance Student of the Month. Each month the selected student, their parents and a teacher or guidance counselor is invited to a lunch held in their honor. The staff member speaks about the students' accomplishments and awards. A kind thank you to Chestine Coverdale of the Rotary Club for her interest in representing the students of Bayport-Blue Point.
OUR GOAL
The goal is to improve student performance at all levels. The student with an improved average of 5 or 10 points is as important as the student who maintains an average of 85, 90, or 95, and has no failing grades.
OUR STRATEGY
Renaissance offers incentives and rewards for academic excellence and improvement. Students who reach specified grade point average or improve their GPA by at least five points receive a card entitling them to privileges. There are four assemblies per year. Assemblies are held to reward those students who attain a high academic average and those who improve their average by 5 to 10 points. The two areas of concentration for our program are Academic Improvement and Maintaining Academic Excellence. Renaissance also awards a number of scholarships to graduating seniors who have shown community service and academic excellence.
ACADEMIC IMPROVEMENT CRITERIA
