Interact Club Advisors: Nikki Restivo / Steve Roach
Interact Club is a service-oriented club affiliated with the Sayville Rotary. Students attend weekly meetings to plan and volunteer for different events that are held both in and outside of school. Annual events include Open House Ushering, Holiday Coat Drive, Salvation Army Bell Ringing, Cystic Fibrosis Telethon and fundraising to benefit local pet shelters. The Interact Club at the HS will be collecting used/old I-pods in order to support an effort to improve the quality of life for the elderly in nursing homes on Long Island. Research shows that when music is personalized to a patient’s interests, it will stimulate memories and even those who have been immobile will start to sing or dance. Personalized music stimulates a certain area of the brain and taps into the memories associated with it. This is especially evident in those who have Alzheimer’s disease. We will be putting a collection box in the main office of each building, including District Office, so that staff, students, and community members can donate old I-pods which will be distributed among nursing homes all over Long Island. The collection will begin April 6th and will end on June 3rd. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at ext 5163 or visit the website at musicandmemory.org to see the results for yourselves. |
