Coca-Cola Scholars Program Criteria:
Selection is based on a number of factors with special emphasis on each individual’s character, personal merit, and background. Merit is demonstrated in a variety of ways: leadership in school, civic and other extracurricular activities; academic achievement; and motivation to serve and succeed in all endeavors.
Awards: 50 awards for $20,000, and 200 awards for $4,000

SAE Engineering Scholarships Sponsored by:
The Society of Automotive Engineers Criteria: Seniors who intend to earn a degree in engineering or a related science (chemistry, physics, math, biology, technologies, computer science). Several scholarships are available and each scholarship has its own criteria for SAT/ACT scores and grade point average. Please see your counselor for an application packet.
Awards: range from $1000- $10,000

Doctors of Tomorrow Scholarship Program Sponsored by:
The Suffolk Academy Of Medicine Criteria: For students who plan to enter the field of medicine Procedure: Students are required to attend an introductory symposium on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. conducted by physicians. Any student planning to attend must see Mrs. Mullins by November 3rd. The symposium will include information about the scholarship.
Awards: Three $1000 scholarships

Most Valuable Student Scholarship Sponsored by:
Elks National Foundation Criteria: Seniors who have strong academics, leadership and financial need.
Awards: 500 Four-year awards- Two $60,000 scholarships; Two $40,000 scholarships; Two $20,000 scholarships; and 494 $4,000 scholarships

2008 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Sponsored by:
Prudential Financial Criteria: Applicants must describe a volunteer community service activity performed after September 2007. An application must be submitted online at www.prudential.com/spirit. The access key is spirit.

Horatio Alger Scholarship Sponsored by:
Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans Criteria: Applicants must have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, demonstrate financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education and a desire to contribute to society.
Awards: Range from $2,500 to $20,000
Application Deadline: October 30, 2008

Ron Brown Scholarship Sponsored by:
CAP Charitable Foundation Criteria: Applicant must be African-American and excel academically, show exceptional leadership and community service.
Award: $10,000 annually for four years

AXA Achievement Scholarship Sponsored by:
AXA Achievement Criteria: Applicant must demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in an activity in school, community or the workplace. Visit www.axa-achievement.com for more information.

Burger King Scholars Program Sponsored by:
Burger King Criteria: Applicant must work an average of at least 15 hours per week for 40 weeks per year. Employment at Burger King is not required. Applicant must demonstrate financial need and participate in community service. Applications are available online at www.bk.com/scholars. The access key is BKS.
Award: $1000

The guidance department strongly urges you to complete and hand in your college applications as soon as possible. Any application with a January 1, 2009 deadline MUST be handed in to the guidance office no later than December 5th (two weeks before Christmas break). If handed in after that date, there is no guarantee it will meet the deadline. If you have any questions, please see your counselor. |
