SEARCH ENGINES

Twine - People use Twine to keep track of their interests. Twine is a new way for you to collect online content – videos, photos, articles, Web pages, products - and bring it all together by topic, so you can have it in one place and share it with anyone you want.

Hakia - Hakia’s semantic technology provides a new search experience that is focused on quality, not popularity. Hakia’s quality search results satisfy three criteria simultaneously: They (1) come from credible Web sites recommended by librarians, (2) represent the most recent information available, and (3) remain absolutely relevant to the query. Hakia Galleries provide a balanced presentation for any given query, by generating results for various aspects of the search term, rather than just 10 blue links. For example, a search for "Madonna" will categorize results in areas such as images, blogs and fan sites, lyrics, myths and controversies and more.

Kosmix - Kosmix is a guide to the Web. The site (www.kosmix.com) lets users explore the Web by topic, presenting a dashboard of relevent videos, photos, news, commentary, opinion, communities and links to related topics. Kosmix’s categorization engine organizes the Internet into magazine-style topic pages, enabling people to navigate the Web.

LivePlasma - Liveplasma maps and displays music and movie search results with linkages and groupings, making a good use of Amazon.com's API. After the search term is submitted, it's immediately surrounded by other artists; the closer they are, the more similar they are in style to the target. The user can search, map, discover new movies or artists then save and share their maps.

Clusty - Instead of delivering millions of search results in one long list, this search engine groups similar results together into clusters. Clusters help you see your search results by topic so you can zero in on exactly what you’re looking for or discover unexpected relationships between items. When was the last time you went to the third or fourth page of the search results? Rather than scrolling through page after page, the clusters help you find results you may have missed or that were buried deep in the ranked list.

KoolTorch - Offers unique visualization of search results based on categorization and clustering in a multi-level graphical format – with large numbers of results (up to 100 or more) on a single page - helps to make sense of what a user is searching.

Intute - Intute is a free online service providing access to the very best web resources for education and research. All material is evaluated and selected by a network of subject specialists to create the Intute database.

Quintura - Quintura is a visual search engine.  You enter your search query. Once the query is processed, words contextually related to your query are displayed on the left pane of the Quintura window. This is your Quintura cloud or visual map.  Use your mouse to navigate your Quintura cloud.
