Happy Holidays!
I hope you have a great holiday season. Can you believe we are coming upon the mid-year point for the 2009-10 school year? If the second half of the year is anything like the first, then we are in for an excellent second semester. We have not only had a great start in the classroom with all of the new technology and SMART Boards, but in other areas as well. Below, please find just a few samples of the good news from the first half of the year:

  1. Four high school students were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Spencer Olsson received Semifinalist status while Stephanie Tubiolo, Ethan Axelrod and Richard Swanson received Commended Student status.
  2. Fifty two students were inducted into the TRI-M Music Honor Society.
  3. All Varsity fall sports teams earned a trip to the playoffs.
  4. Fifty athletes and two coaches received individual accolades for their performance on the field or the hardwood floors.
  5. One high school student received All State status in music: Eva Strobl, Orchestra.
  6. The following HS School Music students were selected into the 2009 NYSCAME/SCMEA All-County Festival: Kelly Ahrens (Soprano), Nicole Dice (Alto), Lucas Kovacs (Trumpet), Stephen Lawrence (Bass), Michelle Popal (Violin), Gabrielle Postiglione (Soprano), Steven Ruggiero (Cello), Alexandra Salas (Alto), Eva Strobl (Violin), Stephanie Tubiolo (Soprano) and Bailee Wines (Soprano)

These accomplishments are only a few of the great things that took place thus far. This list does not include the “Compassion without Borders” fundraiser which raised over $4200.00 by creating a haunted house and safe Halloween for the community to attend, the Holiday Gift Drive sponsored by the Student Government or the painting of store fronts by the Student Art League or all the other community service projects by the National Honor Society and other clubs / organizations within the high school.

It is obvious that there are many reasons to celebrate the actions and accomplishments of our students. As we look to the second half of the year, please remember that midterms and New York State Regents will be given between January 26th and January 29th. Other important dates to remember:

High School Musical – February 4 – 6
HS PTSA Fashion Show – March 24
Spring Concerts – April 12
Senior Banquet – May 15
Junior Prom – May 28
Graduation – June 26

Hope to see you at these events. Thank you for all of your support, and have a great Holiday Season and second half of the year!
