Honor Roll Students - Second Quarter

"Let us think of education as the means of developing our greatest abilities, because in each of us there is a private hope and dream which, fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength for our nation."
John F. Kennedy

Happy Holidays! I hope you had a great New Year's. Can you believe we are at the mid-year for the 2008-09 school year? If the second half of the year is anything like the first, then we are in for an excellent second semester. Not only have our students been successful in the classroom, but on the fields and the stage as well. Below, please find just a few samples of the good news from the first half of the year:

1) Three high school students were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Adam Jansen received Semifinalist status while Declan Diemer and Dylan Kann received Commended Student status.
2) Fifty one students were inducted into the TRI-M Music Honor Society.
3) All Varsity fall sports teams earned a trip to the playoffs.
4) Forty athletes received individual accolades for their performance on the field or the hardwood floors.
5) Three students received All State status in music: Adam Jansen, Mallet Percussion, Symphonic Band; Stephanie Tubiolo, Soprano – Women's Chorus; Michelle Popal, Violin, Orchestra;
6) Nine students received All County status by NYSCAME and seven students were recognized by LISFA.
7) Two outstanding Winter Concert performances.
8) Three very successful school assemblies that were not only informative but encouraged the students to think about their own lives and actions.

These accomplishments are only a few of the great things that took place thus far. This list does not include the Holiday Gift Drive sponsored by the Student Government or the painting of store fronts by the Student Art League or all the other community service projects by the National Honor Society and other clubs / organizations within the high school.

It is obvious that there are many reasons to celebrate the actions and accomplishments of our students for the first half of the year. It would be impossible for all this to happen without the support of our student’s parents and the hard work and dedication of all the teachers at Bayport-Blue Point High School. For that, I thank you. Congratulations and keep up the great work!

As we look to the second half of the year, please remember that midterms and New York State Regents will be given between January 27th and January 30th. Besides the every day sports activities, please mark your calendar for the following events / activities:

High School Musical – February 5 – 7
Spring Concerts - March 24 & 25
Senior Banquet – May 16
Junior Prom – May 22
Graduation – June 28

Hope to see you at these events, and have a great second half of the year!
