A Night of Celebrations

The Bayport-Blue Point Board of Education recognized the many accomplishments of its staff, students and board members during its June 11 meeting.

Prior to the board meeting, a reception was held to recognize those staff members who have announced their retirement and those who have been granted tenure this year.

The district congratulates the following retirees from the Bayport-Blue Point School District: Catherine Bedell (teacher); Thomas Callanan (buildings and grounds); Maureen Espina (teacher); Patricia Freshour (food service); Dorothy Gaynor (buildings and grounds); Carmela Johnson (teacher); Christine Miller (aide/assistant); Rosemary Pearce (teacher); Jean Price (aide/assistant); Sue Romano (food service); Irene Rubbo (aide/assistant); Miriam Sanchez (teacher); Pat Stadier (transportation); Gary Valentine (music/art teacher); Tommy Varley (buildings and grounds); and Kim Weeks (aide/assistant). 

The district also congratulates the following tenured staff members from the Bayport-Blue Point School District: Megan Alicea (aide/assistant); Shannon Baumiller (aide/assistant); Richard Hahn (teacher); Lauren Higgins (teacher); AnneMarie Manganello (aide/assistant); Douglas Meehan (teacher); Kelly Newham (teacher); Elizabeth SanPaolo (teacher); Ellen Vlachos (teacher); Brooke Yonick (social worker); and Jeanne Zodda (teacher). 

In addition, Matthew Nolan, the student delegate for the Board of Education, was recognized for his service throughout the duration of the 2018-19 school year. Eagle Scout Thomas Woods was also honored for his recent work in organizing a successful blood drive.

Board of Education trustee Molly Licalzi, who will no longer be serving in the new school year, was also honored with a certificate of recognition for her years of service on the Board of Education. Additionally, Board of Education President Michael Miller and trustee Daniene Byrne were honored by the New York State School Board Association for achieving Level 3 Board Mastery.

The June Teacher of the Month, an award presented by the Bayport-Blue Point Teachers’ Association, was given to high school teacher Toni Mulgrave based on her shining personality and commitment to bettering the lives of her students on a daily basis.
