In coordination with National Geographic, Academy Street Elementary School recently hosted their annual “GeoBee” competition, testing fourth- and fifth-grade students on their vast knowledge of geographical locations throughout the world.

During the Jan. 8 event, the top 10 finalists were asked questions of varying difficulty by academic intervention services teacher Merrill Thompson, and then responded with either an oral or written answer. The questions tested the young students’ knowledge of global regions, spanning, but not limited to, specific countries, cultures of cities and information regarding states right here in their own country.

After several rounds of tie-breakers, fifth-grade student Vincent Scimone was declared the winner with his correct answer of “Spain” in the final round, while fellow fifth-graders Aiden Richman and Sarah Swan were named first and second runners-up, respectively.
