STEM-based Fun

Students in Meghan Mills’ and Ashley Antico’s second-grade classes at Blue Point Elementary School recently worked on a hands-on STEM-based activity. They collaboratively aspired to make the tallest tower they could using only spaghetti, marshmallows and their critical thinking skills.

During this activity, the second-graders were able to link design, mathematics and scientific problem-solving strategies. Additionally, they strengthened their knowledge of two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes while building their towers.
