History came alive for the fourth-grade students of Academy Elementary School when they attended a program called Journeys into American Indian Territory.
During the workshop, presenters visited with the students to discuss the Eastern Woodlands Native Americans. The interactive program afforded students the chance to explore a museum of Native American artifacts, which included clothing, tools and a replica longhouse. The organization also conducted activities such as storytelling, clay workshops, and lessons on government, music and dance, which gave students firsthand encounters with materials and practices that reflected the depth of tribal history.
