Bayport-Blue Point High School student-musician Cassandra Nielsen achieved a district milestone this year by being the first student accepted into the National Association for Music Education All-National Symphonic Band.

Cassandra is one of 17 band students in New York State to be awarded this honor. She received a score of 100 on her Level VI NYSSMA clarinet solo the past two years. In addition, she was the principal clarinetist for the 2014-15 NYSSMA All-State Wind Ensemble.

“We are very proud of Cassie, as this is one of the most distinguishing honors a high school musician can receive,” Paul Weber, the district’s chairperson for art and music, said.

Cassandra will now perform with some of the highest-achieving music students across the nation as part of the All-National Honor Ensembles during the NAfME festival in Nashville, Tennessee, from Oct. 25-28.
