Cultures Sewn Together

Grade-4-Quilt.jpg
Blue Point Elementary School fourth-grade students celebrated the cultures represented in their classroom with an artistic project. After studying different cultures and learning about the tradition of telling stories to pass down information, the students represented their classroom community by sewing a quilt.

Each student created a symbol on a quilt square that signified something they value about themselves and a quality they bring to the classroom community.  Students drew an array of symbols and described many contributions, such as teamwork, compassion, friendship and creativity. They then worked in pairs to sew the quilt squares together, symbolizing how all of the qualities unite them.
