Sylvan Avenue Elementary School students laced up their sneakers and eagerly jumped for heart health this February as part of the American Heart Association’s annual Jump Rope for Heart program.

The building’s kindergartners through second-graders participated in a weeklong event during physical education classes, while the building’s third- through fifth-graders fine-tuned their jumping skills during the two-week period. All students learned how to complete various types of rope-jumping activities, and the upper grades showcased their abilities during an evening event for family and friends.

Throughout the initiative, students raised money to aid the organization’s mission of raising not only awareness of heart health issues, but also funds for continued research. As a result of the students’ sponsors, the school is well on its way to surpassing its $4,500 fundraising goal.

Blue Point Avenue and Academy Street Elementary School staff members also coordinated Jump Rope for Heart events at their respective schools.
