As a part of their school day, students in the Bayport-Blue Point High School LEAP class participate in an internship program to gain practical experience at various jobs in the community.

On Tuesday, May 20 (rain date Friday, May 23), the class will put the training they received from the owners and employees at Blue Point Hand Car Wash & Detailing into action during an event benefiting the community. Between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., the establishment will offer 50 percent off gold and higher packages for all district residents and employees who mention Bayport-Blue Point School District. The students in the LEAP program will work at the site from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

In addition to their work at the car wash, the students have also received the following on-the-job training this year: portioning food at Applebee’s; hotel maintenance, laundry services and food preparation at the Marriott; housekeeping and room inspections at The Hampton Inn; dining room service and entertainment at Sunrise Assisted Living; and stockroom, clerical and mailroom positions at Brookhaven Town Offices.
