Experiencing Careers Hands-on

handon-1.jpg thumbnail26037
Bayport-Blue Point High School juniors had the chance to experience a range of potential careers that await them during this year’s Job Shadow Day. The program, which is held in the fall for juniors and the winter for sophomores, gives students the chance to get an up-close look at what the working world is like and how the skills they learn in school can be put into action.

During the event, students were paired with professionals from the local and surrounding communities based on their interest. The students shadowed these mentors throughout the daylong program and completed some of the daily tasks involved in their chosen career.

This year’s participants had the chance to work alongside teachers within the district’s schools, individuals in the medical fields, veterinarians, professionals at Bayport Flower Houses, lawyers, chefs, technology specialists, members of the Stony Brook University athletics department, individuals at The Fish Store, and the YMCA in Patchogue.
