Bayport-Blue Point School District congratulates and celebrates high school seniors Douglas McDonough and Jacob Lurie, who have been named valedictorian and salutatorian for the 2019-20 academic school year, respectively. Each student earned his title based on his remarkable academic record and commitment to success throughout high school.

Department Chairperson for Social Studies John Limperatos describes valedictorian Douglas McDonough as “an exemplar for all students at BBPHS” who has a “natural talent, a remarkable work ethic, a zeal for learning, and a penchant to make a difference in the lives of others.” Of McDonough’s time in his Advanced Placement Biology class, science teacher Steven Roach recalled that “he really liked helping out students who were struggling and never used his intelligence and standing in the class for anything other than positive interactions with his peers. I often heard him explaining difficult concepts to his groupmates in a nurturing way, demonstrating natural leadership skills. Doug is truly one of the nicest, most humble students that I can remember over the last 18 years.” McDonough will attend Stevens Institute of Technology in the fall, studying biomedical engineering.

Of salutatorian Jacob Lurie, physics teacher Jennifer Cameron says “his work, irrespective of the task or whether collected for a grade or not, is meticulous, detailed, and complete. Matched in his persona is this quality and consistency.” Lurie will attend Case Western Reserve University, studying mechanical engineering. Cameron is confident that Lurie will succeed in this field, because “he is book-smart, but has a practical intuition for hands-on work, is a natural with computers, and has the temperament for challenging, long-term projects where setbacks will be faced. He also has a creativity and personality that will differentiate him from those like him in the future.”

Bayport-Blue Point School District is immensely proud of both students and looks forward to seeing all the ways in which they continue achieve great success.
