A Fine French Dining Experience

To experience a bit of the culture they had been learning about in the classroom this year and throughout their educational careers, a group of 55 eighth- and 12th-grade French students from the Bayport-Blue Point School District, along with their teachers, visited locally owned and operated Le Soir. As the Zagat-rated restaurant was recently rebuilt after suffering massive damage from a fire earlier this year, the students were excited that the annual tradition was able to continue. The trip was first facilitated a number of years ago when owner and district parent Yasha Kazowicz extended the opportunity for students to experience a French meal at the local establishment.

During their visit, the attendees enjoyed several of the restaurant’s most coveted dishes, including soups, salads, boeuf bourguignon, grilled salmon and chicken in a spicy red pepper sauce. The desserts were equally as enjoyable and ranged from mousse au chocolat and panna cotta to a tarte Tatin. Members of the staff, who came in early to facilitate the experience, were on hand to answer any questions the students had, while the seniors reflected upon their experiences with the district program in conversations with their younger peers.
