Honoring Young Scientists

During a recent meeting of the Bayport-Blue Point Board of Education, the Board honored the winners of this year’s James Wilson Young Middle School sixth-grade science fairs. As part of the middle school’s science research class, each student is required to complete an original science research project. Completed projects, which range in subject from social issues to complex science-based topics, are put on display at the end of the half-year course for parents and students to review. As the course runs twice during the course of the year, there are two fairs held annually. Winners of the school fairs advance to compete at the regional fair at Brookhaven National Laboratory. This year, sixth-grader Emily Phua captured a first-place win for her grade level at the BNL fair.
