Bayport-Blue Point High School students Lauren Zabell and Daphne Sparacio were recently honored with Student Achievement Awards from the Town of Islip in World Languages and Performing Arts, respectively.

Zabell has been a French student since seventh grade and has acquired a high level of proficiency in French vocabulary and grammar. Her curiosity and interest in other languages and cultures led to her decision to study a third language starting in 10th grade, when she added Spanish to her academic course load. She has been a top student in both French and Spanish ever since and is currently is co-president of her school’s World Culture Club. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and an elementary school tutor.

Sparacio has studied music since elementary school. She is currently a tenor saxophone player in the high school Symphonic Band and Jazz Band and performs vocally with the high school Vocal Jazz Choir. She has worked tirelessly to prepare NYSSMA solos that have earned her selection into the competitive NYSCAME/SCMEA All-County Mixed Chorus and the SCMEA Vocal Jazz Ensemble. For the past two years, Sparacio’s NYSSMA All-State auditions afforded her an alternate spot with the prestigious NYSSMA All-State Vocal Jazz Ensemble, which she performed in March. Daphne has also assumed leading roles in Bayport-Blue Point High School’s musical productions for the past few years, most recently as Mabel in “The Pirates of Penzance.”

The Bayport-Blue Point School District congratulates both students on this well-deserved honor.
