Bayport-Blue Point High School seniors Douglas McDonough and Jacob Lurie have been named the Class of 2020 valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively. 

During his time at Bayport-Blue Point High School, Douglas has served as the president of the National Honor Society and was a member of the golf team, tennis team, Chamber Orchestra, Mathletes, Science Olympiad and Tri-M Music Honor Society. Additionally, he has participated in the annual school musicals, works as a lifeguard and serves as secretary of the Debate Club. In recognition of his talents, Douglas also received the University of Rochester’s Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award. He plans to pursue a degree in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and is in the process of finalizing which college he will be attending next fall.

Jacob has been an accomplished athlete at Bayport-Blue Point High School, competing as a talented member of the football and track & field teams. Additionally, he is the Science Olympiad captain, an active member of the Interact Club, Superintendent’s Student Council, School Improvement Team, Tri-M Music Honor Society and National Honors Society, and an accomplished musician, contributing his talents to both the symphonic and jazz bands and pit orchestra. Furthermore, he has given back to his school and community by serving as the student representative on the district’s board of education. Although he is still in the decision-making process, Jacob is planning to pursue a degree in the mechanical engineering field at one of the nation’s top colleges next fall.
