Made of Wax

As a conclusion to a nonfiction reading unit, Sylvan Avenue Elementary School's fourth-grade students worked to embody the lives of the historical individuals they studied during a living wax museum event.

Leading up to the culminating event, the students selected a historical figure of interest to them, read their biography, and collected information on their life and worldly contributions, which they used to create a poster detailing their life. At the museum, the students dressed in costume to represent their chosen person and shared portions of their research with the family and friends in attendance. During the event, the students remained “frozen” until a visitor pushed their “activation button,” which caused them to come to life as their researched individual and deliver a short speech about their life.
