Bayport-Blue Point School District students demonstrate their knowledge and know-how daily, both during classroom lessons and in school-sponsored activities. This winter, many district elementary students had the opportunity to test their geography and spelling knowledge against their peers during school-sponsored bees.

At Academy Street Elementary School, the building’s fourth- and fifth-graders participated in the National Geographic Bee. During the contest, which went for seven challenging rounds before entering into a tie-breaker, the students were asked questions dealing with scenic trails, state borders and key geographic landmarks. This year’s winner was Matthew Stawecki, who will now advance to the written level of the competition in January.

Blue Point Elementary School fourth- and fifth-grade students participated in the school-level of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The students participated in class bees and winners qualified to compete at the school level. After several grueling rounds of competition, Blue Point’s Christopher Roedel was named this year’s school spelling bee winner.
