Passing, Punting and Kicking Their Way to the NFL

Academy Street Elementary School students demonstrated that they have what it takes to be members of the National Football League during a recent competition held in their physical education classes. The school was selected this year to be one of only a few local competition sites for the 2012 NFL-sponsored Pass, Punt and Kick Competition.

During their physical education classes, the schools third-, fourth- and fifth- graders had the chance to pass, punt and kick like professional football stars in hopes of advancing to the Long Island Sectional Championships. The male and female students from each age group who had the highest combined scores -- Meg Brockbank, Zander Katsalas, Alexis Niblock and Kaden Smith -- were selected to advance and will next test their abilities against other winners from across Nassau and Suffolk Counties at the Long Island Sectional Championships in Oyster Bay. Should one of these four be selected to advance beyond the second level of competition, they will have the chance to compete in the state championship at Met Life Stadium and then possibly the national championship during the NFL playoffs.
