Teacher of the Year Honored at Conference Day

As has become custom in the district, Bayport-Blue Point School District’s teachers and staff took time during the Superintendent’s Conference Day held this August to commend the efforts of one outstanding educator. The district congratulates Rochelle Petre on being named this year’s Teacher of the Year.

Ms. Petre, who was nominated for this well-deserved honor by her colleagues, has been a teacher in the district since 1988. She has spent most of her career teaching sixth grade at the middle school, has been named “Teacher of the Month” many times throughout her 25-year career in the district, and is seen as a leader in the field.

"Ms. Petre helped to write the current sixth-grade science curriculum and has helped to train other teachers in the teaching of specific science content,” stated Interim Superintendent of Schools Neil Lederer. “She bends over backwards to help give other teachers whatever tools they need to reach their students. For her, everything is about what's good for students."
