Eagle Scout honored by Board of Education
Kevin Dean, who graduated from Bayport-Blue Point High School in June, was honored at the Board of Education meeting on Aug. 14 for earning his Eagle Scout designation, the highest honor a scout can receive, and his continued service to the Bayport-Blue Point community.

“This is one of the best parts of my job,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Timothy Hearney, who attended Dean’s Court of Honor Eagle Scout ceremony. “I’d just like to congratulate you for everything you’ve done and acknowledge what you mean to the entire Bayport-Blue Point community.”

Dean, who will attend SUNY Oneonta for college, focused his Eagle Scout project on preservation in the Blue Point Nature Preserve. His work included ridding the area of invasive species, regrading a portion of the property to elevate flooding and improve drainage, as well as planting trees that were native to the area.

“It was a really great experience and I was proud to give back to our wonderful community,” Dean said. “The project went very smooth and I truly thank all who supported me on the journey to becoming an Eagle Scout.”
