Fourth-grade students from Blue Point Elementary School recently stepped into a time machine and traveled back to visit America’s early years, as they celebrated the school’s annual “Colonial Day” event.

During the day, the classrooms were transformed to mimic the iconic era, as the lights were turned off and the rooms were “illuminated” by a fire displayed on the Smart Board. Activities consisted of utilizing black construction paper to do simple arithmetic, tracing letters with quill pens and “churning” butter securely in a mason jar.

Additionally, the students took part in Colonial craft stations, paying tribute to popular activities from the time such as candle making, creating trade signs and crafting their very own optical illusion toy.
