The district recently celebrated the accomplishments of students and staff during the Board of Education meeting held on Feb. 6.

To begin the night’s recognitions, several students from Sylvan Avenue, Academy Street and Blue Point elementary schools, and James Wilson Young Middle School were recognized for being named finalists in their school’s respective Spelling Bee competitions. Additionally, Academy Street Elementary School hosted a LEAP Geography Bee and Geography Bee competition for the students to enjoy. The district congratulates all of those who participated and were met with successes in their respective contest.

Bayport-Blue Point High School teacher John Limperatos was congratulated for being named the district’s January’s Teacher of the Month, based on a recommendation from the Bayport-Blue Point Teacher’s Association. Mr. Limperatos is the history department chairperson and teaches Advanced Placement U.S. History at Bayport-Blue Point High School. He is credited as being able to engage students at very high levels, helping them find confidence and success inside and beyond the classroom. Mr. Limperatos is also known for his welcoming demeanor, dedication and professionalism.
